Hey all!!

It's so nice to see some of us oldsters here. If it wasn't for this place, me and DELiver would have never met, got married, and then had our own lil "DELiverable" as Thoin called her, lol.

Just dropping in to see some old familiars. RL stuff to do, then we'll be back posting tonight. Maybe even a quiz, if I can talk hubby into it. *G* **HUGS** to all!

i'm not afraid of white wings. who could be scared of someone so WRONG(!)?

RippedToast
you can't have a SO list when you're married? how sad. ;)

*Sunburst*
i'm sorry, but you must show your aquamarine armband before you can post again.

DarkLady
good luck today! same to Allyson who's probably freaking out right about now.

Kessie
i know what you mean. i technically didn't start watching Buffy until Becoming Part II. so it's really only been 8 or 9 years for me too.

Genevieve's Lucie
hey you! long time, no see. how are your adorable girls? how's the gymnastics?

newt
i LOVE fingerless gloves. you can still type, but your hands are kept warm.

Amarra
definitely not used to type this screename.

slay_me
i always loved your screename. i don't think we ever posted together, but every time i caught your name in a scroll i'd start singing "slay you...slay me. slay it for always." *giggle*

Fantasma
absolutely my pleasure. i actually found the bronze back when i first got online in '97 or '98, but i was so used to chatrooms and the like that i didn't understand how the bronze worked. i really wish i'd stuck around to figure it out.

Let's all take a moment. I was 11 when Buffy started and 14 when I joined the Bronze. I'm 21 now. I don't understand.

newts ~ I'm in second year at uni now, studying Genetics. I'm hoping to, you know, cure cancer, that sort of thing. The acting is just a sidleine with the uni musical theatre society, though this week it feels like the other way round. What are you up to? How are the newlets? *smooch*

nailsie ~ Alas, it finishes tonight. I'm sorry! It's such a good show, I'd love for you to see it. And I'll be dead all tomorrow from the aftershow. Ah dear, it's just bad timing.

Hey janni!

Diannemus ~ Hee! We're attempting Oklahoma accents, but with varying degrees of success. The show's going fantastically though. But we do have a problem where we seem determined to do all our big numbers over to stage right. Why? I start every number hissing "Left! Left!" and being completely ignored. I can't work under these conditions!

Xanderella ~ I'll try, but I clearly can't make any promises.

Glow Boy ~ I'm great! Busy as anything, but very happy with life. What's new with you?

I'm not on the computer that has my old sig. Boo! I'd love to see it again.

Cat.

I found my SO list. I can't believe how obscenely long it is.

Wow, guys, ten years! I remember the first time I watched Buffy, sitting on the sofa at babysitting trying to work out how to get rid of the kids (y'know, without resorting to murder). I think I was only a Beta girl for around 4 or 5 years, but when I think about how much has changed since then.. it's kind of crazy. I love how one show bought so many people together, and changed us and spawned so many other new shows and new fandoms, as old Buffy fans looked for new shows to get into. Lost, Veronica Mars, Heroes, Supernatural... I wonder how much of their fans started watching because their old Buffy friends told them to? I know I did.

*hugs the Beta*

OK, I have to go, or I'll be late. If anyone's still here tonight, I'll try posting again then.

Bye!

P.S. OH! If anyone in the SoCal area is interested in my latest show (the new GrooveLily musical, "Sleeping Beauty Wakes," performed by both deaf and hearing actors) it's already 75% sold through the entire run, so I'd try to get tickets early.

Here's the link to get tickets:
Sleeping Beauty Wakes

And here's some info:

Center Theatre Group present this co-production with Deaf West Theatre, which starts March 31 and opens April 7 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. Jeff Calhoun (Bells Are Ringing, Grease, Brooklyn) who similarly staged Big River will direct and choreograph the new musical slated to run through May 13.

Featuring a book by Tony Award winner Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and music by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda of the band GrooveLily Sleeping Beauty Wakes reunites the trio who penned Striking 12 (a holiday show based on "Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen) and Wheelhouse (the autobiographical tale set on GrooveLily's touring motor home).

The cast includes Erika Amato, Deanne Bray, Clinton Derricks-Carroll, Kevin Earley, Shannon Ford, Russell Harvard, Troy Kotsur, Christia Mantzke and Alexandria Wailes with creators Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda also taking part.

A new twist on the classic Grimms fairy tale will takes audiences "on a wildly theatrical journey set in parallel worlds: a fairy tale kingdom and a contemporary sleep-disorder clinic," an announcement explains. "In both worlds, a caring father learns the difference between protecting and smothering his beloved daughter while his daughter discovers the real costs of flirting with danger, the joy of living a fully conscious and conscientious life, and the meaning of true love."

The design team for Sleeping Beauty Wakes features Tobin Ost (scenic), Maggie Morgan (costumes) and Michael Gilliam (lighting). The production stage manager is William Coiner.

CTG and Deaf West Theatre Company previously teamed on the 2002 presentation of Deaf West's Big River, which incorporated hearing and deaf actors singing and signing songs of the musical, at the Mark Taper Forum. The show moved to Broadway where it earned Tony Award Honors for Excellence and returned to Los Angeles on a national tour.

Tickets for Sleeping Beauty Wakes at The Kirk Douglas Theatre, 9820 Washington Blvd. in Culver City, CA, can be purchased by calling CTG Audience Services at (213) 628-2772 or online at CenterTheatreGroup.org. For the deaf community call TDD (213) 680-4017.

deadguy QOD: Ooh! Choose your own!

10 years ago, it was Willow and Xander with Buffy against Cordelia, would she/could she have done better?

I maintain that you don't choose your friends, your friends choose you. But that doesn't answer the question... I don't think she could have found a more competent collection. Rarely did they have a sitch where a specialty wasn't covered.

Where is everyone hiding? At the various hot spots around the world! But the real question is, did Xander keep the sporty eye-patch or go for a glass eye?

Does the world still need Buffy? The world will never stop needing Buffy.

Thanks Christopher Marlowe it's good to see you too!

I love seeing so many familiar names round here, thanks tiggy for keeping me in your addie book so that I go the batcall!

tiggy: Lordy, it's been nowhere near 10 years for me having spent my formative time on the TPB, wtih a little known group of Boogedies *g* but I certainly wandered here somewhere in 2001 or 2002 I think... I just remember being vocal enough about S6. Good times, good times...

And now, I take a moment to reflect on 10 years of my life, and how BtVS made it better.

10 years ago, when BtVS premiered, I remember I watched it with my mother, it was spring break in my freshman year of college. We laughed, we enjoyed, we thought it had promise, which meant it wasn't going to last. About a month and half later, I lost her. But I am really glad we at least got to see BtVS start together. It was probably over the summer that I caught up on BtVS in the first run re-runs... I remember calling my best friend across campus during commercials with the traditional "oh my god, did you just see..?" I remember watching Season 3 eppie, "Homecoming" with the boyfriend I had at the time, and him making some crack about me wanting the twin hunters (they were german, yes?).

Oh the laughs, the tears, and all the friends... ok, come on guys, big sappy group hug!

Barkeep, another round, on me!

Happy Birthday Buffy!

And hello to everyone who might remember me. How are you all?

No SO list. That got left behind in another life before I was all grown-up and married and stuff.

Well, this is just peachy. It looks like the filters are snagging on my name. But apparently, people can still post to me, so you can still address me as Leather Jacket.

Happy 10th Anniversary of Buffy.

DeAn : Im not sure why its so difficult to scroll for your name. Im not even sure why its so difficult to search for your name.
Moving on, as to you having a power or thinking you have a power, that mole on your backside in the shape of Margaret Thatcher isnt exactly what I would call a power :p~~~~ Also, there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

DaddyCatALSO (Mrs.Beasley, KAM) : Yes, I agree that people who refer to executive home developments as the projects know exactly what theyre doing.

Dianne : Thats probably (possibly) a good idea (using the edit feature) but I dont think it will help me.

sweick, Beldin : My big problem with the Doctor Who DVDs is they cost too dang much.
Of course, I just got a season of Queer As Folk for under $50, so theres hope. Just wait five a couple years.

nailsie : I wouldnt say anyone. The Bronze now has a bouncer.
Also, WRONG! DEAD! NEENER!

Xanderella : *smooch* Youre questioning a explanation? Id really like to know why we have to post spoiler warnings around Buffy talk.

Kenickie : No, Im old. You and PDR are just grown-ups.

pumpkin : It is really and truly I, but Ill have a damnable time proving it.

Al Gore : I dont have much money, but if I did,
Id buy a big house where we could both live I could live
With James Marsden* and Kyle Boller* and we could throw peanuts in your general direction.

*James Marsden and Kyle Boller have made no actual expression of interest in living with me, just so I dont get a law-suit.

Beldin : Yeah, that would have given us an entire half-episode worth of material.

angelgazer : You think its weird? Ive never been Le a t h er J a ck e t.

newt : The board now has a spam filter that wont let you post if your post contains certain things like my posting name as your posting name.

PDR -- just wait till you're 49 (or older). ;)

tiggy -- watch what you say about knitters. white wings will knit you into a straigt-jacket. :nods:

CarpeDi -- yep. not sure I would've survived without StGermain, LaTimide and a bunch of other Bronze support.

mabb -- you just need to get back in shape. My problem is switching back and forth between tags and regular writing: kindof annoying to type < b > in a Word document, rather than hitting the Ctrl-B. :rolls eyes:

Welcome to The Bronze

PLEASE READ BEFORE ENTERING

Posting Board
Threaded Posting Board
Apollo Interactive's Bronze Status Page
The Bronze Community Page
Back to Interactive Site Bronze Entrance

The Bronze Posting Board is a highly developed community of
"Buffy" fans from around the world. If you're new, it can seem
confusing, or you may feel like it's difficult to be heard. Please read
the following information to learn more about how to participate:

1. "The Posting Board" is not a Chat Room. Posts are limited to four
per hour. (Unless a VIP is posting) If you want to chat with other fans
visit our Chat Room by [clicking here].

2. Besides a Linear Posting Board "The Bronze" has a Threaded
Posting Board. The Threaded Board (TPB) is for questions and
discussions on specific topics. There is no limit on posts and this
is a good place to ask basic questions or discuss a single character or
aspect of the show. You can visit the Threaded Board by [clicking
here]
.

3. Before you ask a basic question, request pictures, letters
or autographs from the stars or want to know how to contact them
please read our FAQ by [clicking here]. You will be ignored if you ask
any of these questions in "The Posting Board".

4. Avoid posting your real name, address or phone number anywhere
on this site! People on the board are quite friendly, but like anywhere
else on the web, one should be cautious of whom they talk to. Also,
if someone seems to be in dire straits and need help (ie money) it is
NOT a good idea to send money or any valuables in response to
the person's problem. This board is designed for fans to discuss Buffy
and to talk to other Buffy fans around the world. This board is not
designed for etrade or commerce.

5. The people who post in color are VIP's. They work on the show.
Be nice to them so that they continue to come back often. Unless
you are a VIP you will not be able to post in color. To see a list of PB
VIP's [click here].

6. Be aware of time zone and international differences. "Buffy"
episodes air earlier on the East Coast and sometimes days in
advance in Canada. Beware of posting "Spoilers". See next point for
a explanation of "Spoilers'.

7. You will see the term "Spoiler" used a lot in "The Bronze".
Spoilers are posts that talk about new or upcoming episodes. The
point is not to ruin the show for others by telling them information,
whether it is rumored or not, in advance of an episode. If you do want
to post a "Spoiler" here is the way to do it:

SPOILER BELOW
5
4
3
2
1
This is what happens in tomorrow's episode
1
2
3
4
5
SPOILER ABOVE

8. DO NOT POST IN ALL CAPS. THIS IS LIKE YELLING AND IT IS
ANNOYING. It is a sure way to be ignored.

9. Do not abuse other users here. You will promptly be ignored, and
you may be reported to the system administrator (who will log the
abuse and send a message to your Internet Service Provider).

10. If you want to learn how to make your posts bold, italicized,
underlined or add a link to another web site you can find out how to
do this by [clicking here].

11. Patience is important. This is not a chat room. You will not
receive immediate gratification. The best way to become a part of this
community is to read other posts and familiarize yourself with the
regulars. Try posting a question directly to some one for an answer.
And then remember to wait at least 10 minutes for a response.

[Enter the Posting Board]

In re point #4 above: This one is particularly well taken. However, if someone is a ten year old who asks if her sick little brother can be made into a vampire so he lives forever, and if her foster mother is a Ph.D. (because you read it on the internet, and so you know it must be true), whose husband reallyo-trulyo is honest-to-goodness named Riley Finn, all bets are off.

In re point #6 above: "a explanation"???

Just trying just about anything to get past the filter

KAM : Theres more to interior design than floor plan and hardware. Of course, theres also more to it than interior decorating. Once you own the house, you may be stuck with the floor plan, but the rest is completely in your control. (Says he who has replaced the tub and sink in the bathroom to create more space and is in process of gutting the pseudo-finished basement.
As to the exterior, I actually like a house that looks like it belongs in the neighborhood. I also want a neighborhood where the houses are sufficiently varied that theyre not quite cookie-cutter. Of course, what I own is an adobe in the middle of old Victorians and colonial-style bungalows.

Christopher Marlowe : I dont see the point of having a big house just to have a big house either. Thats just more work. I want a big house so I have closet space, a space to do art work and projects, a space to do house work (carpentry-type), a separate room for laundry on the same floor as the closets, space to store DVDs, comic books and magazines, a place for a sectional sofa, etc.

Hollyn : Well, in defense of those who dont have a firm grasp of the obvious, what gender is Christopher Marlowe?

sweick : Move on? NEVER!

deadguy : There are more competent friends? And how much better was Buffy supposed to do than saving the world, a lot.
That old gang of ours seems to have gone their separate ways. Willow has retreated into more private boards, where shes free to practice her magic without a lot of people coming down on her for her lifestyle choices. Xander has moved on to new friends, like Peter and Nathan, Jack and Lily, Veronica, Sam and Dean, and Clark and Chloe. Cordelia, of course, passed away as all of us do eventually, and Angel just got really busy with work. Buffy finally found herself a steady boyfriend and is spending all of her time with him.
Does the world still need Buffy (the TV show)? Yes. I believe the TV show, at least the first few seasons, dealt with timeless issues that people of that age will always be dealing with, and that left scars on those of us a bit passed that age. Buffy helps us through that.

OzLady : I would be interested in a 10-year reunion party if one were insane enough inclined to put one together, but I recently discovered that the new job doesnt come with quite as much vacation time as the old one, and once I got two cars and a house, its amazing how much less cash-on-hand I have.

sweick, 1cham : Agreed with sweick. Buffy lost the central theme when she moved on to college, because, lets face it, college isnt hell. College is fun and parties and making your own decisions, but still (hopefully) having someone else pay the bills, and the supposedly-cool kids who never studied and always picked on the smart kids are long gone and I think thats gone on long enough. Anyway, they should have had Buffy not do quite so well on her SATs and go straight to trying to find a job that would give her the freedom to slay without the benefit of a college degree. That would have been hell. And hey, demonic human resources folks, what could be more realistic?

Ten years. Wow. At a recent SF convention called Capricon, there was a well-attended, lively panel discussion called "Buffy: Will she live forever?" Someone pointed out that the Music Box in Chicago had two sold-out shows for the "Once More With Feeling" singalong in 2006. More than 800 people wanted to sing along to a Buffy episode. I think that answers the question. :)

(Hello to all my old friends, and to the new folks too!)

This whole 10 year anniversary since the first tv showing of Buffy has made me feel very nostalgic. By a total coincidence I saw an old episode of The Chart Show this morning from 1997. This was an old music show here in Britain which showed videos from various acts of the time. This particular episode was for the year 1997 in general. Just to add to the nostalgia I thought it might be fun to print out their chart of the year.

In reverse order...

20) Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
19) Cast - Get Up
18) Alishas Attic - Indestrucible
17) Backstreet Boys - Everybody (Backstreets Back)
16) Radiohead - Karma Police
15) Olive - You're Not Alone
14) Ocean Colour Scene - Hundred Mile High City
13) Pulp Help The Aged
12) No Doubt - Don't Speak
11) R Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly
10) The Lightning Seeds - You Showed Me
9) Blur - Song 2
8) Eternal & Bebe Wynans - I Wanna Be The Only One
7) Hanson - MMMBop
6) Boyzone - Picture Of You
5) Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
4) Will Smith - Men In Black
3 Spice Girls - Spice Up Your Life
2 Oasis - Do You Know What It Means
1) Various Artists - Perfect Day

Any of those songs bring back some memories? I wonder what the chart was in America at the time?

Dianne, thanks for the tip. It worked perfectly. :)

Beldin: Yep, got both S1/S2 DVDs (still fighting with my cable provider, and condo group won't allow dishes, so I'm stuck on buying the DVDs). Enjoyed both series.

Get the relationship subtext arc (girl meets guy, starts to date, gets really involved, realizes she doesn't really know him, as she starts to right in the middle of the relationship he totally changes, etc.) and liked how Russell T was changing the darker gloomy Virgin/BBC Books Doctor into a more Doctory Doctor. Some of the episodes are hit or miss, namely typical Who.

Kibe Rika: Most people had their best times of their lives in College. Most people didn't in HS. As you pointed out, Joss and Company did all the dark side of College life in like 8-10 episodes in S4. And that was about it. You got three seasons with HS.

Having that central theme made it easier for people to write episodes. It's why the TV execs were so excited by it, as told by Joss on the S1 DVDs, cause they knew by experience how it makes the creative process so much more likely to end with positive results.

Yeah, Joss became busy, but even if he hadn't, not seeing the sure success without a strong central theme. YMMV.

Gotta run again.

Happy Anniversary Buffy!

I'm going to be in and out today. It's so good to see all these familiar faces names! I have big plans for today - library trip, lounging, and watching some Buffy on DVD.

Good times.

OzLady Re: Reunion Party; depending on timing/weather, I'm so there. Kiba checks her calendar timidly... OMG, it's 100% fated to happen - I have a VACATION DAY!!! on President's Day next year (how often does THAT happen in the education business?) followed by a workday (which may be unprotected meaning I could use comp time). Meaning I could fly out Friday (sadly meaning I would probably miss any Friday festivities and also that someone would have to pick me up from the airport rather late), and not have to come back until Tuesday.

Let's do it.

sweick My theory has always been that Joss's life got too good after high school, and so he couldn't find as potent a metaphor to use. (I myself had an unfun time for the first bit of college, and so could think of a million and one potential monsters. Okay, a few potential monsters. All of which they used in Season 4.)

Beldin: Not much anymore. It's hard to build up energy to fight the fight over inactive series. Use to browse ATA a bit a year or so back, but that's it. I did lurk over at R.A.DrWho well past its demise, but I think I always felt that the good Doctor would return.

1cham: Marti didn't ruin the last four seasons of BtVS. The loss of the central theme did that. Some of the best loved S2/S3 episodes were written by Marti.

No, the series devolved because after High School is Hell, there isn't a true central theme to life itself. They generally tried their best but couldn't fit one that worked. I mean when Joss in S6 has the headline about Monsters Not Responsible in the Sunnydale times, and his assistant writes the episode in which the whole show was the rantings of a deranged woman in a mental institute (Normal Again), it's telling.

If you want to, we can discuss the downfall of BtVS from greatness to good if you like, but I think you'll find that the loss of the central theme and not being able to replace it with one as good was the major issue with the last four seasons.

Just better to praise the good stuff on happy anniversaries, and let the others slide.

BTW, does anyone know what happened to Marti after her series was cancelled? Gone strictly Mommy-track?

The answer is no, I am not still studying for a bar exam although I was a few weeks ago. This is THE last time, and this time I mean it. Remind me to quit moving.. I am however, on my way to take the ethics exam sos I can get licensed in my new home state. Wish me ethics!

Bring out the birthday cake
The celebration's here
Bring out the birthday cake
Let all friends gather near
Bring out the birthday cake

Bring out the birthday cake
And we'll circle all around
Bring out the birthday cake
And we'll break into song
Bring out the birthday cake
You know it won't be long
Bring out the birthday cake
This verse must find an end
Bring out the birthday cake

Mild-mannered but still walking to the beat of her own drum in her own parade, Fantasma started her Saturday on the Eastern seaboard of the US in her usual manner - lounging in her pjs as long as possible, when something compelled her to look up in the sky. Look! It's a bird! Whoo... A robin even, it's going to be warm... Look! It's a plane! Well, yeah, we are located in a flight path... No! It's...!

[insert Monty Python Theme music]

So.. it's 10 years ago today... wow... and I thought today rocked cuz Dairy Queen opens which means the temptation can begin once again as I watch the long lines of people gathering for ice crream and french fries and onion rings...

Anyways, now that I've shown up, I'll go for a scroll and maybe come back with some words of wisdom or at least a look back at my own personal 10 years... I mean... way back then, I was pushing 20... now, I'm *shudder* pushing 30! *shudder* = PP

Xanderella decides to go for a scroll. She looks straight into the heart of the Beta and says, "You'll always be mine. You'll always be in the dark with me, singing our little songs. You like our little songs, don't you? You've always liked them, right from the beginning. And that's where we're going. Right back to the beginning. Not the Bang, not the Word. The true beginning."

Well, well, well. Been 10 years already? Time does fly.

Love seeing some of the old sigs. Sadly mine won't fly. Joyce and Gile? Not unless old Rupert's into, well ... ewww. And Oz == Evil!!!, shown in S4 after Marti was done with him. :-)

Nice seeing a few of the old names. Of course there's a lot not here: kirbyclause, Sam Hain, Shalazar, and of course Gazoo along with others not listed. But hey, reality comes and it's time to move on. Even for us obsessive fans.

As with those others, nice to see that Joss and the gang have moved on fairly well, for the most part. I do wish all of them success for the entertainment they brought to me.

This is the spot to honor the tenth anniversary of BtVS. The first three seasons were the best written TV series ever, and the last four were damn good TV.

YAY!!! Happy 10th Anniversary BtVS!!!! thanx for...well... everything see shameless plug below

Christopher Marlowe I'm not surprised, strong cast, strong storylines... very exciting

buffyrat
I think I can find something from Buffy that applies to almost any situation in which I find myself
and here I thought I was the only one who did that... *wink*

abt I strongly suspect I will still be here (provided here is still here)...and still shamelessly plugging my delusion ... ;)

deadguy QOD

I think Buffy's friends...while maybe not the most competent group...were competent enough ... I think she chose wisely... more competent friends may have been found and been a plus... more loyal friends... not... and I'll take competent enough + loyalty over more than competent and looking out for WIIFM.

Well...I know where they are NINE years from when they met ... [shameless plug font] taking place a year after the closing of the hellmouth and a month after Not Fade Away ... within canon up to and including NFA...(all bets are off once S8 comics become available) Willow's promise: the happy ending Willow & Tara *should* have had [/shameless plug font]

Yes. The world still needs Buffy...I didn't find her until two years after she left the air...and it definitely changed my world... (see above shameless plug) and I am thoroughly enjoying the Buffy fans I'm meeting both through The Bronze(beta) and my website...and I'm grateful I found people who still are willing to debate and discuss the show and its issues even though I was late to the party.

Did someone say Ben and Glory were connected somehow?

From a historical perspective, it's because the left hand is seen as dark, sinful: It may be that it is using dark magic (blood magic, maybe?) to force the power to work.

Deadguy, actually I don't think she could have done better. Willow was absolutely the right choice. Her computer knowledge was essential in the early days and Xander, the Zeppo episode notwithstanding was an excellent second in command. I think they coped a lot better with the realities of their world better than a lot of people would of.

I never got to do one of these when I was lurking. Nice to see you around.

Spike: I LIKE this world you have dog racing, Manchester United, and you have people. Billions of people walking around like Happy Meals with legs.

Faith: How do I look?
Joyce: Psychotic.

Oz: So, do you guys often steal weapons from the Army?
Willow: Well, we dont have cable so we have to make our own fun.

Willow: "Well, I like you. You're nice and you're funny. And you don't smoke. Yeah, okay, werewolf, but that's not all the time. I mean, three days out of the month I'm not much fun to be around either."

deadguy: Yes, I believe the world still needs Buffy. I'm basing this on my niece's reaction to her recent first exposure to Buffy. I'm enjoying her discussions of the episodes with her. She's picking up on the ethical and metaphysical questions Buffy tended to raise. And it's a personal joy for me to be able to share it with her. She definitely has potential.
The world still has demons and evil that have to be addressed especially by young girls.

deadguy QOD - 10 years ago a wee moppet named buffy teamed up with the rag-tag pair of willow and xander, mostly out of spite against cordelia. do you think buffy would have done better had she chosen a more competent set of friends?

More competent friends would not have worked. It was important, especially in her high school years, that The Slayer remain a secret. Only outcasts with dysfunctional families would be able to help Buffy without too many questions being raised. The secrecy angle is one part of the show I missed in the later years.

So. I'll saw his legs off while the wing is baking tomorrow, and try to figure out the attaching of said limbs.

Oh, and I made a decision with my story re: someone formerly of Sunnydale not knowing/knowing about Dawn. I'm sticking by my guns - if they left town prior to her creation & did not return to town or otherwise come in contact with a denizen they won't know about her.

Ok. I'd better work on my friend's Christmas gift (We normally exchange birthday/Christmas gifts on New Year's eve, but we didn't get together this year) so I'm not tempted to pull out the saw.

DeMoriel -- put a pillow or two under your knees if you're lying on your back. It'll relieve the pressure on your lower back and help get rid of the pain. The one thing that helped me the most (besides stopping with all the heavy lifting and carrying of books) was an ergonomically designed chair for my work station. About a year ago, I had an upper GI endoscopy--they put a flexible scope down your throat, thru your stomach and into the beginning of your small intestine. Sounds pretty awful, but they numb your throat and give you a nice dose of IV demerol. The nurse told me I was going to have a really good day. She was right. I think I actually enjoyed the procedure, and the rest of the day was just wonderful. I had a real good day.

Let's see - Mom used a power screwdriver on her finger, and cut her fingers on a broken wine glass.

Dad dropped a box of tile on his foot, ran himself over with his own snowmobile, speared himself in the foot, and nearly had two fingers taken off by a diamond-blade tile saw.

I managed to knock out half a front tooth with a hammer while building a fort, got a colored pencil through the upper lip in a bus accident, sliced my left thumb three separate times in the same place (Once with a dull fish knife & once with a bread knife), dismounted a bus the quick way and landed on the small of my back on the edge of the step...

wolfguard, Menomegirl - I think the coolness and visual impact factors are the closest to the truth. Another reason may be it's become so cliche the writers just don't think it out any more. "Oh, we need blood. Cut the palm."

Christopher Marlowe - A cut across the outside of the forearm couldn't be mistaken for a suicide attempt.

DeMoriel - Oh, I don't know. I could see bumping right forearms as a warrior greeting.

ShadowQuest - In that case they were going for the drama and I can see that even though I think the action is stupid. The guy I mentioned earlier just needed to draw blood. And I was thinking more in terms of how the wound would be very slow to heal 'cause it would open every time the hand was closed or flexed. Not to mention how sore it would be.

^ v
ShadowQuest says:
(Sat Mar 10 01:49:43 2007 71.98.34.73)
Beldin Well, when Robin of Locksley (a la Kevin Costner) swore to avenge his father's death, he sliced his palm and made a fist, squeezing the blood between his fingers. Maybe the palm bleeds more/more freely?

And I know what you mean about the flexing - most suicides don't realize that cutting across the wrist severs the tendons and makes it that much more difficult to hold the blade to do the other wrist.

^ v
DeMoriel says:

Tea time: Naked Superfood

Beldin: Cuz then you can seal a handshake in blood. Bumping forearms just wouldn't have the gravitas of a good solid clasp.

Dianne: Gonna try to make the Bronzer documentary screening, if my back pain doesn't decide I'd be better spending my Saturday lying on the floor. There's also a Scientology picket happening in Hollywood that day so I might walk up and see if they're still at it. If the weather's nice, I'll be riding bitca on the new bike up to the Rock Store. Hehe. He gets a bike, I get a ring... it all balances out in the end. (When, ya know, the ring finally gets made and shows up)

^ v
Christopher Marlowe says:
(Sat Mar 10 01:29:00 2007 24.230.63.117)
Beldin I think it just looks better to cut the hand then anywhere else. If they cut anywhere else on the wrist or arms, it would probably look too much like a suicide attempt. Everyone knows that a hand wound isn't life threatening, but it is still considered a serious thing.

CNQ The ratings have been pretty good, so it looks like there will be as strong chance for it to be renewed for another season. Yay!

^ v
Menomegirl says:
(Sat Mar 10 01:25:43 2007 75.89.79.165)
Beldin-I have no idea but I would think it has something to do with cutting across the life-line or just for visual impact.

Beldin,

'Cause it's cool. *g*

Two more practical alternatives would be the sticking the tip of the finger or nipping an ear lobe. OTOH, how does that play out for doing the blood brother thing? The finger to finger might pass muster, but ear lobe to ear lobe? *g*

I have a question, answer it who can. When someone in a show or movie needs blood they always cut the palm of their left hand. Why? It makes a very painful wound that doesn't heal well and leaves them virtually one-handed until it does heal. Why not cut the outside of their forearm or some other place that isn't constantly moving and flexing? (Just watched an ep of B5 where this occurred. The Narn drew a sword which "cannot be sheathed until it has drawn blood". The idiot cut his palm.)

Lostinamerica,

I agree with you that Doppelgangland brings into question what happened in The Wish. I do believe Marti Noxon was saying Cordelia's wish created the world that unfolded when Buffy never came to Sunnydale. She writes Anyanka saying ...

This is the real world now.

This is the world we made. Isn't it wonderful?

I think what happened was they had an opening for a stand-alone episode and Joss really wanted to revisit Vamp Willow. So they did.1 The story can even be fan-wanked...

Anya: I just need a secondary to create a temporal fold. I heard you were a pretty powerful wicca, so...

From Doppelgangland

"Temporal fold"

If one can go back in time, then perhaps there's a loop for The Wish world (a temporal oxbow). Ayanka's spell was to go back in time to the loop and retrieve the amulet. When Willow freaked, the rewind stopped where Vamp Willow was about to be staked and she was retrieved instead.

1 I've read that Joss originally planned only six episodes with Faith, but her popularity lead to ~ 13 in third episode. Joss had a plan, but he was flexible. There're probably no more than seven or eight third season episodes that had stories that had to be told and even those might have been told in more than one way.

2- I saw in the paper today that "Margaritaville"w as written in 5 minutes, "Blowin' in the wind" in 10, "Ring of Fire" in 15, the "Jeopardy" theme in less than 30, and "Born to Run" in 6 months.
3- "Louie Louie" can be fun to lsiten to (maybe I should serch engine the lyrics) but I tend to rpefer the Beach Boys' album cut cover, with the weird background vocals. It's goofier.

lostinamerica wolfguard IrishroseI think we all seem clear on the several basic differences between the two changed 'verses. As to "Doppelgaengland" and so on, I think that if Giles had smashed the power center as soon as Cordelia came to the library, that would have ended it compeltely. But since 5 people capable of changing the world died during the several days or weeks the epsiode took, it generated several parallel wishverses which survived it and the 2nd Vamp Willow came from one of those, the one which was closest to what the original Wishverse would have become had it continued after the fight in the factory.

Mrs.Beasley That's the problem with having so many cable channels, they don't want to broadcast dead air, so something has to fill the time. Same thing happens on the sports channel. "Talk" radio (news and commentary and sports talk shows) are the same thing, only without pictures. A lot of garbage by people who are useless otherwise.

Thanks for the birthday wishes from Beldin, StormFront, Ojagwers, VampSlayer, CaughtNTheQuiet, Old One, valMichael and Austin154--my mom brought me some petit fours from this little local bakery that are to die for. And my husband took me out to a nice, New Orleans-flavor restaurant owned and run by a Katrina evacuee who has decided to stay in Nashville--I got to try turtle soup, and I'll have to say, turtle tastes remarkably like chicken. Why is that, all these exotic, mild-flavored meats taste like chicken?

Algerina--Good Lord, 24 hours of high school hockey? I know you've had a harsh winter and all, but isn't there anything else to do?

DeMoriel--Death threats? That's quite the over-reaction--those Hollywood types take their business seriously, don't they?

DaddyCatAlso, Irishrose, Dianne, Menomegirl, ShadowQuest, slayerdaddy, Maverick, wolfguard, Ojagwers--In The Wish, it seemed like Anya changed the characters' reality, she didn't create an alternate universe. Once Cordy's wish was granted things were immediately different and didn't revert back until her power center was destroyed. I got the feeling from the episode that if her power center hadn't been destroyed, Sunnydale's world would have stayed on this new path--Anya had changed the town's, and our characters, reality forever by granting the wish. And wouldn't the same thing have happened in Superstar if Jonathon had been able to support his spell indefinitely (not that he would have been able to, in the show it seems to be pretty difficult to keep a spell going for long), Jonathon's world would be the real world for Sunnydale?

But then comes Doppleganger. What is VampWillow pulled out of--an alternate universe? Or what remains of the new reality Anya had created, one that starts with Cordy's wish and ends with the crushing of her pendant? That's what I'm confused about--when Anya granted the wish, was she just switching universes, one of the many she said in Doppleganger that exists side-by-side? Or was she creating something new, like she said in The Wish?

NEW YORK (AP) -- Captain America has undertaken his last mission -- at least for now.

The venerable superhero is killed in the issue of his namesake comic that hit stands Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported. On the new edition's pages, a sniper shoots down the shield-wielding hero as he leaves a courthouse.

It ends a long run for the stars-and-stripes-wearing character, created in 1941. Over the years, some 210 million copies of Captain America comic books, published by New York-based Marvel Entertainment Inc., have been sold in 75 countries.

The character's death came as a blow to co-creator Joe Simon. "We really need him now," said Simon, 93, who worked with artist Jack Kirby to devise Captain America as a foe for Adolf Hitler.

The superhero was spawned when a scrawny arts student named Steve Rogers, ineligible for the army because of his poor health but eager to serve his country, agreed to a ''Super Soldier Serum'' injection. The substance made him a paragon of physical perfection, armed only with his shield, his strength, his smarts and a command of martial arts.

In the comic-book universe, death is not always final. But even if Captain America turns out to have met his end in print, he may not disappear entirely: Marvel is developing a Captain America movie.

Stake -- oh, well, I wrote a really "bad" script as well. (In response to complaints that my good script was too literary.) DaddyCatALSO You are correct on my sentence placement. I think I accidentally edited out a sentence and forgot to move the last one. This was the abbreviated version, since my very nice Tiggy style post was eaten by dingoes, and I couldn't retrieve the clipboard of it because my computer crashed at that moment. grumble, grumble. It's still down, but my aversion to crawling under the desk at 8 months pregnant seems to be outweighing my desire to fix it.

we all know that you

You were then and still
you will always be

And now to answer the question thats been plaguing me all night; do I still remember how to do tags on the Bronze? *g*

Beldin

Thanks, Beldin. Nice to be back and even nicer to be welcomed back. Its astonishing how vibrant this community still is. Fantastic to see!

Algerina

Well, Im very glad you did email DrunkenFairy! Thanks. I was stunned to get the email and its had me in a good mood since then! I think its a great idea to mark the tenth anniversary by getting people to post how the show changed their life. The volume of fans that continues to populate this site is testament to the effect the show had on its audience. It was, and clearly continues to be, just about as unique a relationship between text and fanbase that has ever existed in any form of media, I would imagine. And for that relationship to exist, still, after a decade is sort of astonishing. Marking it by asking people to examine, or at least speculate, on how one television show could influence and change their lives is a great idea!
And thanks for your nice words on my career. Im not sure Id call it that, though. Its too much fun getting paid to watch movies to put a term like career on it! Lets just call it super-fun-happy-time *g*

Dianne

Dont know anyone looking for a good script! Im of the opinion that they are, in fact, seeking out bad scripts. So if youve got a good script, my advice is too submit the worst draft of it you have and then maybe itll get made! *g*
Thanks for the welcome back. Good to see you, too!

Daphmax

Hey, how are you? See my message above to Algerina regarding my career! :) Thanks though. Its cool. Today, my work is put on a movie called Moolaade, for the nicest bunch of students I could possibly hope for, and sit down and watch it. Its a tough life *g*

Christopher Marlowe

Hello Ms. Marlowe! Thanks for the welcome back. Really very cool to see all the old names, SO lists, sigs, tags and everything carrying on just like I remember it. Business as usual at the Bronze! Great to see. Youre one of the good fans that never left, I assume?

OldManFan

Thanks for the congratulations. Seems like everybody wants to congratulate me. I doubt my students would share your sentiments *g*
I remember you, too. Absolutely great to see that there are still so much traffic through this site from people like yourself who have probably being posting on Bronze Alpha and Beta for 7 or 8 years.

Maverick

Yeah, thats right. Im from across the pond. Irish. Before I posted last night I did a ctrl+F for my name and I did notice that I was in your S.O list. I thought that might have been the acme of my influence here, but clearly a few people remember me, so thats nice to know! And Im pretty sure if I had access to my old P.C and my S.O list, youd be on it!

Mrs.Beasley

Thanks very much. And I most certainly recall your name. Very nice to be back! Hopefully the emails will keep circulating and a few more prodigal sons or daughters emerge out of the woodwork!

DrunkenFairy

Thanks for the e mail!

Dianne, CNQ, Christopher Marlowe, valMichael Thanks for the input. I think I am going to get some Asimov, some Hawking, some Einstein, and a few biographies of people he likes for inspiration. Maybe a few classics of literature that are usually on the banned lists. Books can be something tangible that he can keep. Access to ideas are probably the best gift I can give him anyway.

VampSlayer Hee. I love your summary and then Ojagwers is correct about the reason Darla sacrificed herself. cc VampSlayer, CNQ, Adri, ShadowQuest

Darla: "What do I have to offer a child, a *human* child, besides ugly death?"

Angel: "Darla."

Darla: "You know it's true."

Angel: "No. What I do know is that you love this baby, our baby. You've bonded with it. You've spent nine months carrying it, nourishing it..."

Darla: "No. No, I haven't been nourishing it. I haven't given this baby a thing. I'm dead. It's been nourishing me. These feelings that I'm having, they're not mine. They're coming from it."

Angel: "You don't know that."

Darla: "Of course I do! We both do. Angel, I don't have a soul. It does. And right now that soul is inside of me, but soon, it won't be and then..."

Angel: "Darla..."

Darla: "I won't be able to love it. I won't even be able to remember that I loved it. (Starts to cry) I want to remember."

Angel pulls her against him.

Angel: "Shh..."

Angel closes his eyes as he holds a crying Darla.

Wes: "Angel, I think you need to prepare yourself for the worst."

Angel: "No."

Wes: "The babies heartbeat is faint. Very faint."

Angel: "What do we do?"

Wes: "I'm not sure there is anything we can do. Darla's body - it's not a life-giving vessel. I don't know that it's equipped to do what it needs to do in order to bring a baby to term."

In the Alley

Angel to Darla: "You're gonna be okay."

Darla: "No. No, I don't think so. Once he's gone, I won't be okay. I won't be okay at all. - I don't know what I'll be. - Angel... Our baby is gonna die right here in this alley. - You died in an alley, remember?"

Angel: "I remember."

Darla: "I wanna say I'm sorry. I wanna say it and mean it, but - I can't. - Aren't you gonna tell me it's okay?"

Angel: "No."

Darla: "No? It's really not, is it? We did so many terrible things together. So much destruction, so much - pain. - We can't make up for any of it. You know that, don't you."

Angel after a beat: "Yeah."

Darla: "This child - Angel, it's the one good thing we ever did together."

Angel lifts Darla's hand between both of his and pressed it against his lips.

Darla: "The only good thing."

Angel buries his face in his hands, still holding onto Darla's, takes a sobbing breath.

Darla: "You make sure to tell him that."

Darla is holding one of the splinters of wood and buries it in her chest, gasping. Angel lifts his head and stares as Darla turns to dust.

Where Darla was there is now a naked human infant lying in the rain, crying.

And now is when I sob.

lostinamerica, we saw that Anya seem to have created an alternate reality real enough for VampWillow to be pulled out of it into the reality that "our" Willow exists in simultaneously. It looked like Jonathan's spell changed people's memories (they thought he'd starred in "The Matrix," for instance) and the immediate present.

VampSlayer, I thought that Darla's concern was not that the baby would be born without a soul, but that either it would die in the womb or that once it wasn't inside her, she wouldn't love it and would in fact probably kill it.

Poof ...

Here's part of the article in Nikki's book & part of Amber's post: (This was in response to attacks after the airing of "New Moon Rising.")

Her first instinct was to walk away and no longer post on the Bronze, the posting board of the official Buffy web site. But after a few days she changed her mind... DCA - the old Bronze, not this one

"Yes, I am not a STICK. I am a NORMAL, HEALTHY (I was gonna say Girl, but...) WOMAN. I have breasts and hips and I am very happy that they are a part of me. I weigh 118 and I am 5'4". If you saw me in real life, you would think I was on the thin side. But on TV, next to my very petite costars, I do look heavier. I am PROUD to be NORMAL. A body is a beautiful thing to waste....

I have enjoyed being a lurker. But my feelings just can't take the criticism...I think being a beautiful, heavy, lesbian witch rocks!"

And towards the end of the post she recommended: "Love yourself for who you are, not what others THINK you should look like."

you said thought I understood from Nikki Stafford's book that Amber's famous "I have curves" *sighs* Indeed...indeed she does...

Beldin Ah, but amateurs, and children, succeed because they don't know they can't. the same can be said of dreamers and fools... ;)

up your skirt these days.

Which...cute.

Nice Fifth, btw.

Buffy Songs

Ok, gotta ask for some help from y'all.

I've got a "Background Buffy" play list, which consists of the falling songs. My question is: Which episode did they come from? (I know the first three.)

Louie, Louie - The Kingsmen ("Band Candy")
Tales of Brave Ulysses - Cream ("Band Candy")
I Only Have Eyes for You - Lettermen/Flamingos (IOHEFY - James listened to the wrong version)
Shadows - Four Star Mary
Pavlov's Bell - Aimee Mann
We Are the Lucky Ones - Bif Naked
It Doesn't Matter - Alison Krauss
Strong - Velvet Chain
Blue - Angie Hart
Let the Sun Fall Down - Kim Richey
Goodbye to You - Michelle Branch
Full of Grace - Sarah MacLachlan
I Will Remember You - Sarah
I'll Take Your Breath Away - Sarah
Prayer of St. Francis - Sarah
Wild Horses - The Sundays ("The Prom")
I Fall to Pieces - Patsy Cline

When I burn this to CD I'd like to list the episodes.

Thanks!

CNQ:

LOL! You spoiler fonted a response to a Buffy/Angel question? You're silly...it made me smile.

Even if it was an unintentional funny *g*

Adri:

Let's start from the beginning, shall we, in a tale I call 'Darla, Lady Vampyre Whom Never Liked to Stay Dead Until That One Time'-

Darla was dying of Syphilis when the Master approached her and offered to turn her - she later sired Angelus, who later was resouled, then staked her in Sunnydale to save Buffy many years later.

Then, Wolfram and Hart brought her back as a human, and she struggled with her mortal soul and guilt, as well as the return of her Syphilis.

Before she was allowed to die again, this time of "natural causes", Lindsey stormed in with Drusilaa who revamped her, and they went on a merry spree of death.

Later still, after Angel used Darla in a moment of weakness, Darla left L.A, only to find out that she was pregnant. She returned, after trying to rid herself of the pregnancy, for Angel's help. The soul of the baby she was carrying eventually brought back her guilt, and helped show her that she loved the child she was carrying, but when it came time to give birth, she had to make a decision - allow her child to be born without a soul, or sacrifice herself to assure that he did.

She chose the latter...staking herself in the rain, in an alley, leaving Connor in the amrs of his father.

The End

Adri Sorry I can't help you. I thought she had syphillis (Not the funny kind) when she was human, and that's why The Master turned her.

But the whole becoming human & having Angel's baby thing was on "Angel" and I never saw that. Well, I've seen maybe a handful of episodes, but not the one(s) in question.

I disremember because I am senile and now it's bugging me, but how did Darla die? I know it had to do with when she was a "soiled dove" and got a venereal disease that damaged her heart but did she actually get her vampness undone? When I think of vampires who get their souls back or get to become human again, I usually think only of Spike and Angel but was it also Darla?
